As with any election cycle, whatever administration takes control of the country will be attempting to lead a country that is straining from a political divide. As the church, we must remember that the leader of our country is not the true ruler of our nation. There is One who will always be greater than whoever holds the highest office in the land. No matter who sits in the oval office, we, as Christians, still have an obligation to the One who sits on the Throne. In this obligation, we are to pursue a life of dignity and nobility. Jeremiah 13.1-9 reads…
This is what the Lord said to me: “Go and buy a linen belt and put it around your waist, but do not let it touch water.” So I bought a belt, as the Lord directed, and put it around my waist.
Then the word of the Lord came to me a second time: “Take the belt you bought and are wearing around your waist, and go now to Perath and hide it there in a crevice in the rocks.” So I went and hid it at Perath, as the Lord told me.
Many days later the Lord said to me, “Go now to Perath and get the belt I told you to hide there.” So I went to Perath and dug up the belt and took it from the place where I had hidden it, but now it was ruined and completely useless.
Then the word of the Lord came to me: “This is what the Lord says: ‘In the same way I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.

A linen belt was apparently a sign of dignity and nobility, something the high priest and regular priests would have worn to perform their duties. This points to the type of life God expects His children to live. We are to be people of dignity and nobility, free of pride. However, the people of Judah were caught up in the pride of life.
Just as the linen belt had been ruined, so also would the pride of Judah and Jerusalem be destroyed by God. There was no place for pride in the life of a child of God. Like the scripture says, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16.18)
This should cause us to consider the American pride. We are proud of our nation, for we are the greatest in the world. We have pride in our possessions; look at all we have attained. There is pride in all aspects of our lives. The question remains, “Is our pride going to end up destroying us?”
What are some things we can do to be sure we don’t get caught up in our own pride?
How can we go about living a life of dignity and nobility?
Just a Thought…
