Making Plans and God’s Presence | Just a Thought

In Joshua 8, we read how God gave a purpose and promise to Joshua so as to be successful in the battle against the city of Ai. However, it was Joshua that made the plans for the battle. Through those plans, God brought about the success through His presence.

In the same way, we have the privilege and opportunity to set up the plans on how we live for God. We can make plans on how to love God, our friends, families, and neighbors, and to disciple the people under our care.

What are some things that we can do to show our love for God? How can we express our love to Him? What has brought strength to our love of and connection with God?

How do we go about loving our friends, families, and neighbors? What are some of the practical ways we can love and serve? It may be a kind word, or a simple action that can have the greatest impact upon the people in our lives. Don’t underestimate what God is able to do through the acts of kindness we do for others.

How do we go about making disciples? What has worked best in growing in our faith in Him? There are many ways that are offered to help others grow in their faith. We grow through worship services, bible studies, one-on-one accountability, online messages, etc. What has helped the most in our pursuit of God?

Along with planning, we need to understand that it is only by the presence of God that true love and discipleship will take place.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” – Proverbs 16.3

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” –  Proverbs 16.9

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” – Proverbs 19.21

God has given us a purpose and a promise, but we get to plan the work that is to be done. At the same time, it is God that establishes our plans and steps, and brings His purpose to fruition.

Are we doing what we can in our service to Him? Do we trust in His presence as we serve?
