We have been going through the book of Joshua. To this point, we have seen the work of God through Joshua and the people of Israel. This work allowed the Israelites to enter the Promised Land and take possession of it. In chapters 11-21 we find the accounts of the many battles fought to capture the entire land. We also read about the distribution of the land to each of the tribes of Israel.
Now we come to chapter 22. The people of Israel had found rest in the land of Canaan. Joshua was sending the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh back to their homes. Their land was located on the other side of the Jordan River. Moses had given this land to these two and a half tribes prior to his death. However, they had crossed the Jordan with the rest of the tribes to help in overtaking the land.
Now in their return to the east side of the Jordan, we see an issue arise that causes great concern to the people of Israel. From this issue, we can learn from the actions, accusations, and aftermath of the events and conversations that take place.
Joshua praises the tribes of the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh for their dedication to the people of Israel. They had done all that Moses had commanded, and obeyed Joshua in everything. They did not desert their fellow Israelites and carried out the mission given from God.

This shows us the importance of being dedicated to the people of God. This dedication comes from our relationship with Jesus Christ. Through our relationship with Jesus, our love for the brothers and sisters in Christ grows. This growth brings the desire to help each other with our needs, wants, desires, hopes, and dreams.
Their dedication with the all the people of Israel is a great lesson for all followers of Jesus Christ. Are we dedicated to one another? Are we dedicated to our brothers and sisters in Christ? Would we be willing to support one another in this life as we wait for Christ’s return?
Just a Thought…
