Jeremiah had been dealing with the people of Israel, proclaiming God’s word to them. As a result, the people wanted to kill him. In response, Jeremiah calls out to God for His help and placed his trust in God’s presence.
Because the Lord revealed their plot to me, I knew it, for at that time he showed me what they were doing. I had been like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter; I did not realize that they had plotted against me, saying,
“Let us destroy the tree and its fruit; let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name be remembered no more.”
But you, Lord Almighty, who judge righteously and test the heart and mind, let me see your vengeance on them, for to you I have committed my cause.
Therefore this is what the Lord says about the people of Anathoth who are threatening to kill you, saying, “Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord or you will die by our hands”—therefore this is what the Lord Almighty says: “I will punish them. Their young men will die by the sword, their sons and daughters by famine. Not even a remnant will be left to them, because I will bring disaster on the people of Anathoth in the year of their punishment.”
– Jeremiah 11.18-23

What did Jeremiah do that God rewarded him with protection?
When Jeremiah heard of the plot of his demise, he turned to the One who judges righteously and tests the hearts and minds of men. He prayed, “let me see your vengeance on them, for to you I have committed my cause.
Jeremiah turned his situation over to God and trusted in Him to come to his aid. He knew that vengeance was not his to place upon his enemies. It was God alone who would mete out the proper vengeance.
How was God going to deal with those that plotted against Jeremiah’s life?
In response, God said He would deal with Jeremiah’s enemies by punishing them with the sword and through famine. Through the events that transpired in the coming years, God’s punishment came true and disaster was brought upon the people.
In what ways has God shown His protection on us today?
Even today, God will protect those who trust in Him. There may be times when it seems His protection is missing. However, we must remember that He is working all things out for His glory.
We are all living temporary lives on this planet. God already knows the number of our days. He is protecting each one of us. He is keeping us safe in this life as we fulfill the purposes He has given us. Do we believe this? Do we trust in His presence, that He is with us at all times?
