We Need God’s Help | Just a Thought

We need God’s help to seek out the root of the sin.

In Joshua 10, we read how the Israelite army were defeating the armies of the Amorites. Along with routing out the Amorite armies, Joshua had found where the Amorite kings were hiding. He understood that even when the armies were pushed back and destroyed, the battle would not be finished until they dealt with the kings. This focus on the kings can represent the focus we are to have with our sins.

We all have sins in our lives. Some sins are minimal, and we think nothing of them. Others are large and are often on our hearts and minds throughout each day. We may do well, with God’s help, at addressing the sins and working hard to suppress or remove them from our daily lives. However, there is more than just routing out the appearance and presence of the sin. We must seek out the root of the sin and deal with it to completely conquer the battle.

The root of all sin is selfishness. What part of our selfish nature are we allowing to have control in us that is causing the sin to blossom? How can we get to the root of this sin, this selfishness, and finally remove it for good?

It all comes down to Jesus. Again, we are forgiven of our sins because of His work. There is now no more condemnation for those that are in Christ Jesus. Because of Him, we are perfect, holy, and blameless in His sight, and He can reveal to us the root of the sin within us.
