In the book of Joshua we read about a nation known as the Gibeonites. They had deceived the nation of Israel into forming a treaty with them. Because of this, the Gibeonites found confidence in their new connection with the Israelites.
The Gibeonites were coming under attack by other nations, but they had the confidence to cry out to Israel in their time of need. They were able to call out to them saying, “Do not abandon your servants.”
In the same way, if we have made a “treaty” with God through faith in Jesus, we should be able to find confidence in our time of need. This confidence comes in our connection with the Family of God, the Body of Christ.
When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we receive an instant family. We become brothers and sisters in Christ. Because of this, we should be able to rely upon these individuals. As a family, we are to share our struggles and stresses with each other, receiving the help and support we need.
However, this is something that oftentimes does not happen. We are a private people. We do not want to be transparent enough to let others know what is going on in our lives. Instead, we will put on our Sunday best and go to our favorite place of worship. We will wear the mask that covers our true state of being, so that the world will assume that all is well with us.
The good news is that we do not have to go through the battles of life alone. We can find a few individuals, a small group of brothers and/or sisters, and grow into being honest and open with one another. It is within the family of God that we can receive the help, support, and confidence we need to overcome the battles in which we find ourselves.
Have we become part of a family of believers? Do we have confidence in the family of God and are we willing to live life in community with them?
Just a Thought…
